Week#4 Spring’12

Praise God that everything has come together for Focus Week, and that for our friends that are going to hear about Him this week!
Pray for courage and strength and boldness – for UBCU members that we would speak the truth of who Jesus is loving and openly – for non-Christians that their eyes would be opened to see who God is and that they would have a courage and faith to respond!
NO Prayer and Praise, CU Central, or Friday Football this week because of……

God is passionate about each and every student on our campus. He longs to reach out to them through us; to reveal to them the unfailing, unquenchable love that we are so privileged to know!
What amazing opportunities we have as students to share this with our friends…we are surrounded by those who are hungry, open and questioning the world in which they live!
‘What is Truth?’ is the theme of Focus Week 2012, a week of events from January 30th – February 3rd, which faciliate and focus what God is doing in our friends (and also those who don’t have Christian friends!).
However, for this vision to come to success, logistic, financial and most importantly prayer support is vital as we recognize our lack of ability without God’s intervention.
Logistic wise, there are 3 signup sheets below, full of opportunities to give your time to the week, opportunities include stewarding at events, serving tea and coffee, flyering and many more!:
If you would like to give towards Focus Week 2012 financially, you can do so here:
(The usual Paypal fees will be deducted from your donation, but not much!)
As we are completely self-funded by the donations of our members and contributions from churches, as a committee we’d greatly appreciate you prayer for the UBCU finances.
And if you would like to give towards Focus Week 2012 in prayer, you can do so…anywhere! Hoorah!

Central – PRAYER AND PRAISE!
Spending some time praising God and lifting up our campus, our friends, our world…and much more to our God, who hears our prayers!
All the talks from our Central meetings are recorded, so if you missed any or want to listen to them again. You can listen online, download, or even subscribe to the podcast. Check out the recordings page HERE to find out more. A great way to keep up with the teaching at Central while on a year abroad or away from the uni.
New Committee Nominations
We are at the time of year when we prepare for the handover of leadership of the CU and I’d like to just take the chance to briefly explain how this process works. At Houseparty we invited nominations from CU members of people who would be suitable to serve on the new committee. However, we also reminded CU members that the committee should never be the focus of the CU or a distraction from our vision to proclaim the Gospel to our campus. Nor should we fall into the trap of thinking that these are the most important roles in CU, but merely one way of serving. In light of the nominations we received and after prayerful consideration by the current committee we are happy to inform you of our intention to propose the following at our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 22nd Feb:
The above positions will be voted on at the AGM. If you have any reasonable objections to these nominations or you wish to stand as an Independent Candidate please speak to a member of the current committee by Wednesday 15th Feb.
Now that these proposals are announced, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2) and get excited for the fantastic opportunity to share the Gospel that Focus Week provides us.
YWAM Discipleship Training School
YWAM runs a discipleship training school (DTS), which is aimed at developing a closer personal relationship with God, and sharing His love with others through a live/learn lecture phase consisting of teaching, worship, small groups, prayer and intercession, and living in community, followed be a practical outreach phase where participants put into practice and live out what they have learned. They are running a DTS, based in Harpenden, Herts, starting mid-January, and running through until after the Olympics. They are still taking applications, anyone interested in applying contact Tom Leonard, or visit their Website
Sponsored sleep-out
The Birmingham City Mission Sponsored Sleepout is running on the Friday 24th Februaru. It raises money to bring support, food and friendship to our city’s homeless and in need. The Sleepout this year is at the BCM car park in Bordesley. They’d love to have students come along and take part! More information on their website or get in touch with Hannah Noble on 0121 7666603
CU Groups
Small groups are a great way to get really involved within UBCU and to really get to know a core group of members really well.
We have CU groups in most halls and in various houses in Selly Oak, which allow students to meet up together, learn from the Bible, pray and praise together.
To find out more about small groups, see the small groups page, or get in touch with Matt Williams.
Churches
If you are still searching for a Church to get plugged into, head to the Local Churches page to find details of each Churches’ rep who would love to take you along.
