St John's Church, Harborne

St John's Church, Harborne

Venue: St John’s, High Street, Harborne, B17 9PT

From Sept 2019-Sept 2020: Lordswood Girls School, Knightlow Road Harborne B17 8QB

St John’s is a large and vibrant Anglican church, with about 600 attending services on an average Sunday. We seek to be faithful to God, empowered by the Holy Spirit and to know Jesus with intimacy and a sense of mission.

Our Student Group meet regularly for fellowship and meals together. Students are encouraged to join church home groups which meet on a weekly basis for regular bible study and prayer and this helps us get to know the wider church. We also have socials, joint events with the St John’s 20s and 30s group and enjoy a weekend away.

St. John's is based in Harborne which is easily accessible to students from across the city. From Sept 2019 the church is planning an exciting new building project which will necessitate the whole church family moving out of the church building for a time. During this time church family gatherings will happen at Lordswood Girls School on Lordswood Road (Knightlow Road,
Harborne) which is also easily accessible by public transport (no 48 bus from University of Birmingham).

WHAT DO WE DO FOR STUDENTS?

St John's is a church for all ages and students in particular are an important part of life at St John's. As well as supporting monthly gatherings (on a Tuesday evening) we also arrange lots of social time together, mentoring, invitations from families for meals, evangelistic events, a weekend away and much more. We also try and get everyone involved in serving in wider church life - whatever your gifts we are sure there is a place for you to enjoy getting stuck in.

It is also really important to us that students are involved in leading our student ministry and we encourage everyone to get involved in leading and participating, wherever you are on your journey of faith. We learn and grow together and whether you've been a Christian for a while, are a new Christian, or are just beginning to explore the Christian faith, you are most welcome.

Our Sunday services are at 10am and 6.30pm (until we move out of the building to the school when they will be at 4pm and 6.30pm) Most of our group come to the 6:30pm service (which finishes around 8:00), after which we get together and go to a local cafe for coffee/drinks. The 6:30pm is the most informal service, often with extended worship and opportunities for testimony, the prophetic and prayer ministry.

The earlier service is full of families, children and great fun. It is also a place to get involved if you enjoy working with children.

At each of these services during the first four weeks of term there will be a student welcome - you'll see our student group leaders in their matching t-shirts. Make sure you come over and say hello and we'll give you detailed information about what is coming up.

Student Ministry Team.  Katie & Ian Shelley lead our student work along with Josiah English who is the St John’s Young Adults Worker. Each year we also have a few students who become Student Leaders.
